American Nurses Landing in Normandy

The American nurses were sent to Normandy for treating the wounded during world war. The first nurses to arrive in Normandy were members of the 42nd and 45th Field hospitals and the 91st and 128th Evacuation hospitals. They started landing on the beachhead four days after the initial invasion on June 6, 1944. Elcano said her hospital unit, the 45th, crossed the English Channel and landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day plus 10.

Erika (the girl) changed her rifle to a white gown and a Red Cross armband, to help the injured on the streets. She was just helping the injured when a Soviet soldier attacked her. He rifled a series of shots that killed the girl immediately. According to her death certificate engrossed by the hospital of Péterfy Sándor Street, she died from a neck shot.
